Softball Recap: Middleton Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Middleton had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Cedarburg Bulldogs.

Cece Smith looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hailey Stroede, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Macey Blazek was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.

Middleton's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Cedarburg, they moved to 7-2 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Middleton will take on Watertown at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cardinals 2.2, the Goslings 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Cedarburg, they will head out to take on Port Washington at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 10.6 runs per game this season.
