Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Poplar Springs

Poplar Springs waltzed into their contest on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Vernon Yellowjackets with a sharp 60-34 win. The Atomics have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Yellowjackets, too.

Hayden Hall was nothing short of spectacular: he almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamal Carnley, who posted nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Poplar Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January.

Poplar Springs' victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-2. As for Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Poplar Springs will be playing at home against Altha at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Atomics are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Vernon, they will head out to face off against Ponce De Leon at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
