Baseball Recap: Deep Creek Hornets vs. Hickory Hawks        
        
		
            
 After flying high against Norcom  last Wednesday, Deep Creek came back down to earth. The Deep Creek Hornets lost  12-1 to the Hickory Hawks on Thursday. Deep Creek has not had much luck with Hickory recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
 Deep Creek saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Jose Ruiz, who  went 1-for-2 with  an  RBI.
 On Hickory's side,  Jake Chadwell made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he  struck out six batters over  four innings while giving up just one earned run off   two  hits. Chadwell has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't  given up  more than two  hits in three consecutive pitching appearances. Chadwell was also big at the plate,  going 2-for-3 with a  home run, two  runs,  and two  RBI.
 In other batting news,  the team  relied heavily on  Brayden Bachman, who  scored three  runs and  stole a base while  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances.  Ben Redding was another key contributor,  scoring a  run and  stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
 Deep Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Hickory,  the  victory  got them back to even at 6-6-1.
 Both  teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Deep Creek will  face off against Nansemond River at 5:45  p.m.  on Tuesday. Deep Creek is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1  runs per game  this season. As for Hickory, they will head out on the road to  take on  Nansemond-Suffolk Academy at 11:00  a.m.  on Saturday. Hickory's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8  runs per game  this season, so Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
