Basketball Recap: Kiona-Benton Comes Up Short

Kiona-Benton lost against Cashmere back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Kiona-Benton Bears were beaten by the Cashmere Bulldogs 61-33. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 73rd).

Kiona-Benton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Shelby Messner, who posted 15 points along with six boards and six steals, and Kiwi Franco, who scored four points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Messner has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played.

Kiona-Benton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Cashmere, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-4.

Kiona-Benton has already played their next game, a 74-32 loss against Zillah on the 28th. As for Cashmere, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-49 defeat against Naches Valley on the 28th.
