Baseball Recap: Neumann-Goretti Triumphs

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Neumann-Goretti nor Cardinal O'Hara made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Saints came out on top against the Lions by a score of 5-1. This was payback for the Saints, who suffered a 9-6 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Neumann-Goretti got a great performance from Johnluca LaSpada as he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. The Saints are 5-2 when LaSpada allows one or fewer earned runs, but 4-6-1 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Richie Rosati, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Cerone, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Neumann-Goretti now has a winning record of 9-8-1. As for Cardinal O'Hara, they dropped their record down to 6-10 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Neumann-Goretti will welcome Conwell-Egan Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cardinal O'Hara, they will challenge Devon Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tide's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Lions' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
