Preview: Ocosta Wildcats vs. Wahkiakum Mules

Ocosta has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Wahkiakum Mules at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

After only six points in their last matchup, Ocosta made sure to put some points up on the board against Toutle Lake on Friday. Ocosta took their game at home with ease, bagging a 54-22 victory over Toutle Lake. The score was close at the half, but Ocosta pulled away in the second half with 34 points.

Ocosta's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tarren Lewis, who rushed for 62 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 passes. Andrew Martin was in the mix as well, providing Ocosta with three touchdowns.

Another reason for the win was Ocosta's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Johnathen Helberg and his two sacks.

Meanwhile, Wahkiakum had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against Rainier by a score of 21-12.

Wahkiakum got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zakkary Carlson out in front who threw for 161 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Grant Wilson, who picked up 89 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Ocosta's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Wahkiakum, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 4-4.
