Basketball Game Preview: Otay Ranch Mustangs vs. Mission Bay Buccaneers

The Otay Ranch Mustangs and the Mission Bay Buccaneers will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Otay Ranch picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They came out on top against Grossmont by a score of 55-48. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Jordyn Webster was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Otay Ranch's points. Another player making a difference was Johann Omae, who posted 12 points.

Meanwhile, Mission Bay entered their tilt with Bonita Vista on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 59-46 win over the Barons. Given the Buccaneers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while the Barons are ranked 430th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Otay Ranch has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for Mission Bay, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Otay Ranch came up short against Mission Bay when the teams last played back in November of 2023, falling 64-60. Can Otay Ranch avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
