Recap: John Battle Trojans vs. Central Wise Warriors
The John Battle Trojans suffered their biggest loss since December 12, 2023 on Thursday. They were outmatched by Central Wise on the road and fell 68-40. While losing is never fun, John Battle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while Central Wise is ranked 25th).
Several Trojans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Keeley Smith, who scored six points along with four steals. Karlie Blaylock was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
John Battle's loss was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Central Wise, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
John Battle will be playing in front of their home fans against Union at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Union is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Central Wise, they will head out on the road to square off against Abingdon at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Abingdon sitting on six straight victories and Central Wise on four.
