Softball Recap: Exeter's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

Exeter was the 6-2 winner over Sierra Pacific when they last played one another back in March of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Monarchs fell just short of the Golden Bears by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Monarchs have suffered since April 30, 2024.

Chloe Sparrow spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kait Rios made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Lanie Uruchurtu, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

The loss snapped Exeter's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-4 record. As for Sierra Pacific, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-5.

Coming up, Exeter will challenge Immanuel at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sierra Pacific, they will square off against Sanger West at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
