Basketball Recap: Plainfield Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Abrielle Dugan and Hannah Menser

Plainfield has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 57-55 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hamilton Southeastern Royals. The matchup was a 23-23 toss-up at halftime, but the Quakers couldn't quite close it out.

Plainfield's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Hannah Menser, who went 8 for 16 on her way to 24 points and five assists, and Abrielle Dugan, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 17 points and five boards. Menser's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Berkeley Williams, who posted 12 points.

Maya Makalusky was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds for Hamilton Southeastern. Kayla Stidham was another key player, putting up eight points and 12 rebounds.

Plainfield's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Hamilton Southeastern, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 17-0.

Plainfield and Hamilton Southeastern should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Plainfield (ranked 27th) will meet Bloomington North (ranked 161st) at 7:30 p.m. on January 15th. Plainfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.3 points per game this season. Similarly, Hamilton Southeastern (ranked first) will meet Carroll (ranked 41st) at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
