Basketball Game Preview: Canton Cobras vs. Hartland Eagles

The Canton Cobras will head out on the road to challenge the Hartland Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Canton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season.

Canton is headed into Tuesday's game hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-52 heartbreaker at the hands of Northville. The matchup was a 22-22 toss-up at halftime, but the Cobras couldn't quite close it out.

Despite the loss, Canton had strong showings from Kessler Blakita, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 17 points, and Teddy Winstel, who posted 11 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Winstel a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Liam Wilson, who scored six points.

Meanwhile, Hartland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell to Howell 48-43. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while the Highlanders are ranked 102nd).

Canton's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Hartland, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.

Canton was able to grind out a solid win over Hartland in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 54-43. The rematch might be a little tougher for Canton since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
