Softball Recap: Grants Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Grants waltzed into their match on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Laguna Acoma Hawks. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-8 on Monday.

Olivia Toivanen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Raeyna Valdez was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Delilah Martinez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Grants was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .553. They are 5-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory got Grants back to even at 8-8. As for Laguna Acoma, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-5.

Grants wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 15-0 win against Thoreau on the 15th. As for Laguna Acoma, they will face off against Hozho Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolves have averaged an impressive 11.6 runs per game this season.
