Softball Preview: Lordstown Red Devils vs. Pymatuning Valley Lakers
The Lordstown Red Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Pymatuning Valley Lakers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lordstown comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Lordstown managed to slip by Grand Valley the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Red Devils came up short against the Mustangs last Monday, falling 25-2.
Meanwhile, Pymatuning Valley got the win against Lakeside on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-1. The Lakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Mackenzie Kribbs made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning two RBI and one run. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season.
In other batting news, McKenna Jordan was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Aislyn Fuller was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Pymatuning Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeside only posted an OBP of .211.
Lordstown's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Pymatuning Valley, their record now sits at 6-2.
Lordstown might still be hurting after the 23-2 loss they got from Pymatuning Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
