Softball Recap: Benton Central Takes a Loss

Benton Central extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-15 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lebanon Tigers. If the Bison were looking for revenge after losing 10-0 to the Tigers when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Benton Central saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chloe Linder, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

As for Lebanon, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-7. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games.

On Lebanon's side, Miley Wilhoite spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits. Wilhoite has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benton Central will take on Covington at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.3 runs per game on average), something the Bison will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lebanon, they will face off against Southmont at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mounties have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
