Basketball Recap: Edinburg North Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Josiah Cruz and Raul Palacios

Edinburg North lost against La Joya on January 10th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Edinburg North Cougars took a 62-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the La Joya Coyotes. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Edinburg North's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Raul Palacios, who went 8 for 13 on his way to 19 points, and Josiah Cruz, who went 5 of 10 en route to 11 points. Another player making a difference was Roel Palacios, who posted ten points.

La Joya's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daniel Trevino, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 26 points. That's the most points Trevino has posted since back in November of 2024. Hunter Morales was another key player, going 5 of 12 en route to 19 points and five rebounds.

Edinburg North's loss dropped their record down to 19-15. As for La Joya, their record now sits at 12-19.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Edinburg North will challenge Pharr-San Juan-Alamo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Edinburg North is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.3 points per game this season. As for La Joya, they will face off against Economedes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. La Joya also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 52.4 points per game.
