Basketball Game Preview: Round Valley Elks vs. Monument Valley Mustangs

Round Valley is 0-4 against Monument Valley since December of 2014 but things could change on Tuesday. The Round Valley Elks just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Monument Valley Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. Round Valley will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

On Monday, everything went Round Valley's way against Morenci as Round Valley made off with a 49-25 win.

Round Valley found their leader in sophomore Kelci Walker, who went 10 of 21 on her way to 24 points and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Poston, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Monument Valley came up short against Chinle on Saturday and fell 53-41. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Wildcats are ranked fifth).

Round Valley has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.2 points per game. As for Monument Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.

Round Valley came up short against Monument Valley when the teams last played back in January of 2022, falling 54-44. Can Round Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
