Basketball Recap: Serra Catholic Find Success

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Serra Catholic ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 61-58 win over the Nazareth Prep Saints. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

It was another big night for Owen Dumbroski, who went 8 for 19 en route to 21 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Tyler Sapida, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Serra Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Nazareth Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Will Evans Jr, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 boards. Evans Jr's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Mikey Keyes was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

Serra Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Nazareth Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.

Serra Catholic has already played their next matchup (against Waynesburg Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Nazareth Prep will take on Avella at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th.
