Basketball Game Preview: Sitka Wolves vs. Mt. Edgecumbe Braves

Sitka is 2-8 against Mt. Edgecumbe since February of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Sitka Wolves will venture away from home to face off against the Mt. Edgecumbe Braves. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Sitka is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Barrow, who was ranked 20th at the time (Sitka was ranked fourth). Sitka came out on top against Barrow by a score of 75-63 on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Wolves sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Meanwhile, Mt. Edgecumbe made easy work of Wrangell on Saturday and carried off an 84-58 win. The Braves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 21 points or more this season.

Mt. Edgecumbe has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.9 points over those games. As for Sitka, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.

Sitka didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Mt. Edgecumbe when the teams last played last Friday, but they still walked away with a 71-66 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sitka since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
