Baseball Recap: Phoenix Country Day Takes a Loss

After a string of three wins, Phoenix Country Day's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of the Morenci Wildcats by a score of 10-9. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 12-1 to the Wildcats when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Phoenix Country Day got a good showing from Carson Rose, who didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Furthermore, Rose didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Ronnie Ross was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Phoenix Country Day is 2-1 when Ross posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Logan Rose, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Phoenix Country Day's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Morenci, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-12.

Coming up, Phoenix Country Day will challenge Santa Cruz Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dust Devils will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Morenci, they will face off against Pima at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats are facing the Roughriders at the right time seeing as the Roughriders are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
