Baseball Recap: Quitman Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Quitman, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Mendenhall Tigers 5-4. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Tigers last Tuesday, they had to take a 13-8 loss.

James Files spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. Quitman is undefeated when Files posts eight or more strikeouts, but 10-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Quitman's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Hill, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Quitman now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Mendenhall, they moved to 9-8 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Quitman has already played their next contest, a 12-1 loss against Neshoba Central on the 12th. As for Mendenhall, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 9-7 win against Raleigh on the 14th.
