Volleyball Recap: Bre Knighten's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fulton over Kirksville

Fulton extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 7-5. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Kirksville Tigers. While the Hornets didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Tigers 25-19 in the first set.

Fulton's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bre Knighten, who had 21 kills, 18 digs, and one block. Knighten has been hot for a while, having posted six or more kills the last 17 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Tatum Dailey, who had 29 digs.

As for Kirksville, they now have a winning record of 5-4. The win continues a trend for them in their matchups with Fulton: they've now won three in a row.

Kirksville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chloe Schwend, who had four digs and four aces. The dominant performance also gave Schwend a new career-high in assists (15). Jacey Breitsprecher also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

Coming up, Fulton will challenge Mexico at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Kirksville, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Trenton on the 18th.
