Softball Recap: Newport Drops Highest Score of Season Against Davenport

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newport). They put the hurt on the Davenport Gorillas with a sharp 16-3 victory on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Lili Hall made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Newport got a massive performance out of Bella Boyd, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three doubles. Those three doubles gave Boyd a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grace Parry, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI.

Newport kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.

Newport's record now sits at 7-5. As for Davenport, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8.

Newport will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Gorillas: the pair will be back at it again later today.
