Football Game Preview: Hanover Hornets vs. Walsh Eagles

The Hanover Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Walsh Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hanover knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Walsh likes a good challenge.

On Friday, Hanover strolled past Bethune with points to spare, taking the game 56-40. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won four in a row.

Thomas Griffin Jr. produced another solid effort rushing for 324 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 16.2 yards per carry. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 157 rushing yards. Tanner Lindsey was another key player, picking up 51 receiving yards and three TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hanover was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 398 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Walsh came up short against Granada on Friday and fell 45-36. Even though they lost, the Eagles' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 26.1 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Walsh has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. As for Hanover, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.

Saturday's game might be decided in the trenches. Hanover has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 294.1 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Walsh, though, as they've been averaging only 83 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?

Everything came up roses for Hanover against Walsh in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured an 82-19 victory. In that contest, the Hornets amassed a halftime lead of 50-19, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Saturday.
