Volleyball Recap: Jayleen Berlanga's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sharyland over Pioneer

If Sharyland was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Rattlers came up short against the Pioneer Diamondbacks on Tuesday, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Diamondbacks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

The final score came out to 25-14, 25-13, 25-13.

Sharyland lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jayleen Berlanga, who had 13 assists and five digs. She is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 13 or more in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Paula Perez, who had 14 digs and one assist.

Sharyland's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 20-15. As for Pioneer, they are on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 19 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 31-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Sharyland will take on rival Vela at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Pioneer is set to face off against their familiar foe Rowe at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
