Softball Recap: Shelton Has No Trouble Against Sheehan

Shelton hadn't done well against Sheehan recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Gaels were the clear victors by a 15-6 margin over the Titans. While the Gaels didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Sammi Denihan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Sabrina Plyler was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abby Montero, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Shelton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .558. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Shelton's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sheehan, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Shelton has already played their next game, an 11-1 win against O'Brien RVT on the 17th. As for Sheehan, they will be playing at home against St. Joseph at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
