Preview: Northeast Jones Tigers vs. Laurel Golden Tornadoes
Northeast Jones has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Laurel Golden Tornadoes at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Northeast Jones was beaten by Mendenhall 57-30. While losing is never fun, Northeast Jones can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Mendenhall is ranked 53rd).
Meanwhile, even though Quitman scored an imposing 63 points last Tuesday, Laurel still came out on top. Laurel walked away with a 72-63 victory over Quitman. The win made it back-to-back wins for Laurel.
Northeast Jones has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Laurel, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-8 record this season.
Northeast Jones ended up a good deal behind Laurel in their previous meeting on December 5th, losing 66-49. Can Northeast Jones avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
