Baseball Game Preview: Grafton Bearcats vs. Preston Knights

Grafton and Preston are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Bearcats will host the Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grafton has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Grafton is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest loss since April 1st on Monday. They came up short against Williamstown, falling 13-3. The Bearcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Carter Gillespie was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. Grafton is 2-1 when Gillespie posts three or more hits, but 10-12 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Preston entered their tilt with Elkins on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted since April 10th.

The team relied heavily on Wyatt Moyer, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson McNew, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Grafton now has a losing record of 12-13. As for Preston, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Grafton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Preston struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
