League recap: West Salem tops McKay to extend winning streak

6A Central Valley recap Oct. 9, 2012

West Salem extended the longest winning streak in 6A Central Valley this week by beating McKay, 41-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.

West Salem took down the Scots 41-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Kevin Martz was the best wideout in the league this week as South Salem fell to Sprague. Martz tallied five receptions for 66 yards. Jordan Knoll helped South Salem's passing attack out by catching two balls for 26 yards.

Hayden Gosling put up the best numbers through the air as McNary defeated North Salem. He finished with a total of 12 completions for 147 yards and one touchdown. Gosling's favorite target this week was Cody Bond, who caught three passes for 60 yards.

Devvon Gage was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 224 yards on 29 carries as the Olympians lost to the Olympians. Teammate John Marshall added to the ground attack by rushing for 115 yards.

Sprague's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Olympians feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Jon Schaub has thrown for 1025 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, while Nicholas Moran has 20 catches for 379 yards. Gage leads the league in rushing with 824 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when South Salem takes on McKay. As it stands, Scott Dufault's team is in third, while Greg Mendez's team is in fourth.

Shawn Stanley's team led the league in scoring this week after putting up 41 points on the Scots.
