Basketball Recap: Avon Takes a Loss

Avon was the 55-44 winner over Gayville-Volin when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Avon Pirates were dealt a 51-11 defeat at the hands of the Gayville-Volin Raiders on Saturday. The contest marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Gayville-Volin found their leader in sophomore Maia Achen, who to rack up 16 points. What's more, Achen also posted a 75% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2023. Taylor Hoxeng was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Avon's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Gayville-Volin, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Avon will head out to challenge Viborg/Hurley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Viborg/Hurley will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Avon surely won't give up without a fight. As for Gayville-Volin, they are taking a road trip to take on Freeman at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
