Volleyball Recap: Mapleton Comes Up Short

Mapleton lost against Crestview on September 4th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Mounties took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. While the Mounties didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cougars 25-21 in the first set.

Mapleton started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-13.

Aubree Hess paced Mapleton's offense, picking up ten kills. Hess got some help from Addison Hess and her 20 assists. Addison also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Paige Beattie, each putting up two.

Crestview's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kloe Morrison led the charge by getting 11 digs and two aces. The dominant performance also gave Morrison a new career-high in assists (45). Another player making a difference was Lena Kahl, who had 12 digs and two aces.

Mapleton has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Crestview, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5.

Mapleton has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Western Reserve on the 2nd. As for Crestview, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Plymouth on the 2nd.
