Softball Recap: Mena Has No Trouble Against Waldron

Mena had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Waldron on Tuesday. The Bearcats put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 15-0 win. The Bearcats haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Abi Koppein made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, Laynie Powell was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Lily Rowland was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.

Mena always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mena's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Waldron, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.

Looking ahead, Mena will face off against Malvern at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Waldron, they will take on Clarksville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
