Laney is a perfect 10-0 against West Brunswick since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Buccaneers will look to defend their home field against the Trojans at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Laney 2.8, West Brunswick 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Tuesday, Laney was able to grind out a solid victory over North Brunswick, taking the game 6-1.
Makenly Horrell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Laney's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Allyson Brehmer, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another was Isabella Stevens, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Laney hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Brunswick struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Brunswick). They blew past Lumberton 12-2 on Tuesday. With that victory, the Trojans brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Pressley Wilson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wilson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kady Long, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2025. Mylee Sneed was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one triple.
The win made it two in a row for West Brunswick and bumps their season record up to 9-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Laney, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Laney has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like West Brunswick struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Laney skirted past West Brunswick 2-1 when the teams last played back in March. Do the Buccaneers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
