Basketball Game Preview: Mitchell Mustangs vs. Countryside Cougars

Two dominant guards in Eli Wilson and Corey Perlin are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. Having just played yesterday, the Mitchell Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Countryside Cougars at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Mitchell's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches.

On Tuesday, Mitchell was able to grind out a solid win over Wesley Chapel, taking the game 64-51. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Mustangs' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 346th, while the Wildcats are ranked 162nd).

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Countryside against Anclote on Friday as the team secured a 67-14 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Countryside had a senior duo take command as Perlin went 9 for 14 en route to 21 points along with eight rebounds and five assists and Carter Padags went 8 of 15 on his way to 21 points and five boards. Perlin has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. Bryce Meier was another key player, putting up six points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Countryside pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.7 points per game. As for Mitchell, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Mitchell was able to grind out a solid win over Countryside in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 58-51. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mitchell since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
