Softball Recap: Italy Takes a Loss

If Italy was riding high fresh off their 26-18 takedown of Itasca last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gladiators lost 14-5 to the Rio Vista Eagles on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Gladiators have suffered since February 24th.

Addy Slovak made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last 11 games she's played.

Italy's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Rio Vista, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Italy will host Frost at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Polar Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.79 runs per game on average), something the Gladiators will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Rio Vista, they will welcome Meridian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Eagles' favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while the Yellowjackets have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
