Softball Game Preview: Whiting Oilers vs. Hammond Bishop Noll Warriors

For the second straight game, Whiting will face off against Hammond Bishop Noll. The Oilers will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Whiting has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Whiting fell victim to Hammond Bishop Noll and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Warriors, falling 16-0. The Oilers have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

For Hammond Bishop Noll's part, Madelynn (Maddie) Queen made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Queen has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Anais (Niecy) Reyna and Aiyanna (Yani) Espinosa did most of the damage at the plate: Reyna went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while Espinosa got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those five RBI gave Reyna a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlyn Walker, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Hammond Bishop Noll was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Hammond Bishop Noll's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Whiting, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
