Baseball Game Preview: Letcher County Central Cougars / Lady Cougars vs. Pikeville Panthers

The Letcher County Central Cougars / Lady Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Pikeville Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Pikeville took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Letcher County Central, who comes in off a win.

Letcher County Central gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They won by a run and slipped past Perry County Central 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars / Lady Cougars have posted since April 19, 2024.

Quentin Williams and Brett Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Williams went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double, while Smith scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Pikeville came up short against Sayre on Saturday and fell 8-4.

Bash Ryan was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Pikeville's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Letcher County Central, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Letcher County Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Pikeville in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Letcher County Central since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
