Baseball Recap: Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington Takes a Loss

Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington had lost 16 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-7 to make it 17. They lost 13-3 to the Fairfield Lions. If the Blue Jays were looking for revenge after losing 17-0 to the Lions when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Fairfield, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games.

For Fairfield's part, Ben Miller made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Fairfield is undefeated when Miller allows two or fewer earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Miller was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Zane Matthews and Cameron Miller did most of the damage at the plate: Matthews went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Cameron got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Miller is becoming a predictor of Fairfield's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Rice, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington will host Robertson County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Jays are facing the Black Devils at the right time seeing as the Black Devils are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Fairfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Eastern at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
