Baseball Recap: Ocoee Gets the Win

Ocoee won the last time they faced Colonial and things went their way on Friday too. The Knights skirted past the Grenadiers 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since April 29, 2024.

Not much got past Trenton Nice, who gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks to keep Colonial off the board. Nice also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ocoee is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Ocoee saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joser Retana, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Another was Dwight Oneal, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Ocoee is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Colonial, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ocoee will venture away from home to square off against Edgewater at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Colonial, they will head out to face off against Wekiva at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.1 runs per game on average), something the Grenadiers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
