Preview: First Presbyterian Day Vikings vs. Tattnall Square Academy Trojans
The First Presbyterian Day Vikings will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Tattnall Square Academy Trojans at 7:30 p.m. First Presbyterian Day has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Even though Gatewood scored an imposing 64 points on Tuesday, First Presbyterian Day still came out on top. First Presbyterian Day took their matchup against Gatewood 76-64. The win was all the more spectacular given First Presbyterian Day's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 472nd, while Gatewood is ranked 234th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead First Presbyterian Day to victory, but perhaps none more so than Wills Handberry, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Handberry has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Reynolds Handberry, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Tattnall Square Academy beat Mount de Sales Academy 58-50 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Tattnall Square Academy.
First Presbyterian Day's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-10. As for Tattnall Square Academy, they pushed their record up to 13-1 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
First Presbyterian Day took a serious blow against Tattnall Square Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 91-35. Can First Presbyterian Day avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
