The 6-foot-2, 200 pound Garmon made the announcement at the U.S. Semper Fidelis All-American Game, televised live on CBS Sports Network. He selected Iowa over Miami, Arkansas and a host of other offers.

As a senior, Garmon rushed for 1,050 yards and nine touchdowns. He also hauled in three touchdown catches.

Garmon ranks as the nation's No. 5 tailback, behind Johnathan Gray, Barry Sanders, Keith Marshall and Byron Marshall.

Most remarkable about Garmon is the fact that he's quietly overcome cancer, which he was diagnosed with as a 14 year old.

"My message is you can never give up and that anything is possible," Garmon told MaxPreps over the summer. " All anyone has to do is look at me."
