Basketball Recap: Nehemiah Chavez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Penasco over Mccurdy

Penasco lost against McCurdy back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Penasco Panthers opened the new year with a less-than-successful 57-46 defeat to the McCurdy Bobcats.

Penasco lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Nehemiah Chavez, who went 9 for 11 on his way to 19 points and eight rebounds. Kaileb Atencio was another key player, putting up 13 points and six rebounds.

Penasco's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for McCurdy, they pushed their record up to 4-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Penasco and Questa will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for McCurdy, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mesa Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
