Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Damian Navarro and JD Hill Lead Mission Viejo to Victory

There's no place like home for Mission Viejo, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 54-39 win over the University Trojans on Friday. The Diablos pushed the score to 40-18 by the end of the third, a deficit the Trojans cut but never quite recovered from.

Mission Viejo was led to victory by JD Hill and Damian Navarro. Hill posted 16 points, while Navarro had 17 points. The dominant performance gave Hill a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Vargas, who put up seven points.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Eli Pretto, who earned 13 points along with eight boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Shervin Moarrefian, who posted 15 points and six rebounds.

Mission Viejo's victory bumped their record up to 8-11. As for University, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mission Viejo will face off against Capistrano Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Capistrano Valley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matches. As for University, they will take on St. Margaret's at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
