Baseball Recap: St. Patrick Comes Up Short

St. Patrick fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Vancleave on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 11-10. The defeat continues a trend for the Fighting Irish in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost eight in a row.

Jasper Moran and Wilson Kaigler stepped up to the plate in a big way. Moran went 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI, while Kaigler got on base in four of his six plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that Moran has launched this season. William Gunn Jr was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with one run.

St. Patrick's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Vancleave, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. St. Patrick will venture away from home to take on West Harrison at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Fighting Irish's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hurricanes have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season. As for Vancleave, they are taking a road trip to face off against George County at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
