Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maloney). They put the hurt on the Platt Panthers with a sharp 18-5 win on Tuesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-3 on May 8th.
Stella Cicero was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Cicero was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jenna Quilty was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Lacie Volpe, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Maloney always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Maloney pushed their record up to 10-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Platt, they are on a 20-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-20.
Maloney does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Platt, they will square off against New Britain at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
