Basketball Recap: Grand Valley Snags Fourth Victory in Last Five Games

If Meeker wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Grand Valley, they should've done a better job of containing Daniel Gronewoller. The Grand Valley Cardinals secured a 61-55 W over the Meeker Cowboys on Saturday thanks in part to Gronewoller, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.3 blocks per game.

Porter Ostermiller was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 13 boards. That's the most rebounds he has posted since back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Meeker saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cade Mills posted 12 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Alex Garcia, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Grand Valley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.2 points per game. As for Meeker, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

Grand Valley will venture away from home to challenge Cedaredge at 4:00 p.m. on February 8th. As for Meeker, they will host Plateau Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Plateau Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season.
