Baseball Preview: Palmetto Panthers vs. Braddock Bulldogs
The Palmetto Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Braddock Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Palmetto ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Killian.
Jake Cruz tossed a big game, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't pitched less than five innings in four consecutive pitching appearances.
At the plate, Palmetto let Alec Fuller and Jack Gordon loose on the outfield. Fuller scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Gordon got on base in four of his five plate appearances with a stolen base and a double.
Meanwhile, Braddock got themselves on the board against Hialeah Gardens on Thursday, but Hialeah Gardens never followed suit. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Gladiators 1-0.
Palmetto's victory bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Braddock, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
