Football Game Preview: Washington Tigers vs. Cornerstone Christian Warriors

Two dominant backs in Savior Owens and Jaylen McKane are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Washington Tigers will be playing at home against the Cornerstone Christian Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Washington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Cardinal Ritter College Prep, who was ranked 11th in their home state at the time (Washington was ranked 20th). The Tigers strolled past the Lions with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 28-14.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cornerstone Christian). They claimed a resounding 58-0 victory over Stanton. With that win, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 30.7 points per game.

Washington better keep an eye on Malcolm Carter. He was instrumental in Cornerstone Christian's win, rushing for 71 yards and two scores on only six carries.

Cornerstone Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 307 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Cornerstone Christian's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jorga Serna, Jacob Veasey, and Jonas Wiederstein, who each picked up one sack apiece. Cornerstone Christian got some further help from Serna: he picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Cornerstone Christian's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.4 points on average over those games. As for Washington, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
