Basketball Recap: Clay County Panthers vs. Charleston Catholic Irish
The Clay County Panthers lost against the Charleston Catholic Irish back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Clay County received a tough blow as they fell 45-30 to the Irish. Clay County has not had much luck with the Irish recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Leading Charleston Catholic to victory were Layla Carter and Mary Rushworth. Carter scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Rushworth scored 20 points along with two steals. Rushworth is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Rahin, who scored six points.
Clay County's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Charleston Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Clay County will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Charleston Catholic, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Nitro will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive.
