Preview: Booneville Blue Devils vs. Amanda Elzy Panthers
After two games on the road, Booneville is heading back home. They will take on The Amanda Elzy Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Booneville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Amanda Elzy likes a good challenge.
Booneville stacked a sixth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Tanner, posting a 48-21 win on the road. 48 seems to be a good number for Booneville as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Zion Nunn continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 230 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.5 yards per carry. Nunn was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 61 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Tapp Fraiser, who rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought match, but Amanda Elzy had to settle for a 24-22 defeat against Humphreys County on Thursday. Despite 300 more yards than Humphreys County, Amanda Elzy couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
The losing side was boosted by Jevarion Glover, who threw for 409 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.2 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 106 yards on only 13 carries. Markell McCain was another key contributor, gaining 157 total yards and a touchdown.
Booneville has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. As for Amanda Elzy, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Booneville has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 148.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Amanda Elzy struggles in that department as they've been even better at 196.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
