Baseball Recap: Sequoia Wins Going Away Against Half Moon Bay

Sequoia barely beat Half Moon Bay the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Ravens put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 14-1 victory on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Ravens in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won seven in a row.

Derek Hymer made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Vince Olinger Giani was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Garrett Johnson, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.

Sequoia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Sequoia's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Half Moon Bay, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Sequoia will be playing in front of their home fans against King's Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Ravens' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Half Moon Bay, they have already played their next match, a 13-10 defeat against Santa Cruz on the 5th.
